We are very pleased to have in our team Dr. Richard Snoad who is the resident Periodontist (gum specialist). He is highly respected and is an opinion leader in his field. He has lectured and published nationally and internationally and is a member of the editorial board of 'preventative dentistry'.
If advanced periodontal disease is recognised in patients then General Dental Guidelines state that the diagnosis be verified by a specialist. This is because at this stage of the disease, loss of teeth and bone is very likely unless treated. Treatment of advanced gum disease is complex and involves a variety of treatment options hence consultation with Dr. Snoad is highly recommended to ensure the correct treatment pathway.
If early or moderate periodontal disease is diagnosed during a gum screening or check up appointment it can be treated by a hygienist and verification of the diagnosis by a specialist is optional for the patient.
Once treatment has been carried out and the gums are stable and no longer deteriorating, consultation with Dr Aulakh (specialist orthodontist), Dr Suri (Restorative dentistry) and Carole Brennan (hygienist) may be necessary to treat other aggravating factors of the disease such as occlusion (bite problems), need for further tooth support or hygiene.
