Over time our teeth can become stained by eating foods such as curries, drinking red wine, tea and coffee and also smoking. Teeth also become discoloured with age and by certain medications. Although regular brushinD and visits to our hygienist can help to keep your teeth clean and remove surface staining they cannot remove deeply embedded stains. Teeth whitening is a well established procedure that aids in the removal of stains and discolouration of teeth by bleaching them and making them brighter and whiter.

Dr Komal Suri has extensive experience in teeth whitening and has used many tooth whitening systems available on the market today. She has chosen to use the Ultradent Bewhite system at Smile Design Dental Practice in Buckinghamshire, since it delivers excellent results and is very safe.

The degree of success will vary from patient to patient depending on the structure of the teeth. The whitening process will not be effective on fillings, crowns, veneers or any other dental restorations. This is important to consider if you are thinking about whitening as you may need to replace old restorations to match the whiteness of your natural teeth after the treatment. In surgery teeth whitening

Come and relax and have your teeth whitened in less than an hour. The Smile Design chairside bleaching process is quick and easy, a convenient way to brighten up your smile. Chairside whitening is ideal for anyone looking for immediate results.

What does the procedure involve?

The procedure is simple, it begins with a protective material being placed over the gums, leaving only your teeth exposed. The whitening gel which contains 35% hydrogen peroxide is placed on the teeth and breaks up stains and discolouration. The process takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour during which you can relax to the music of your choice, take a nap or watch a DVD.

The home whitening system involves having special plastic trays specifically fabricated for your teeth. The bleach is administered from small syringes into the trays and these are worn for 45 minutes to an hour a day for up to 2 weeks. The strength of the home bleach is 6% hydrogen peroxide. This is considerably weaker than the chairside bleach which is why a prolonged exposure to the gel is needed.

The home kit can be used as well as the chairside procedure which will enable you to give your teeth an extra boost whenever you want.

The home kit gives exactly the same end result as the chair side procedure but it just takes longer and you must wear the trays every day. Sometimes if the teeth are extremely discoloured it can actually produce slightly better results because you have the ability to use the home kit as many times as you want.
