His treatments range from early intervention children’s’ braces to simple adult braces and complex adult treatments that involve a multidisciplinary approach with his colleagues.
The most important thing with any treatment is to be able to provide a tailored treatment plan for you based on your needs and capabilities.
5 factors play a role in the decision-making process:
In order to address all of these issues Dr Decker is able to offer a selection of different treatment options
Early/phase 1 orthodontic treatment
This is provided for children between the ages of 7-10. This is when they still have some baby teeth and their jaws are developing. The main goals of Phase 1 treatment are:
- to positively influence jaw growth
- correct habits
- improve aesthetics and self esteem
- improve the width of the jaw to prevent permanent teeth extractions later
- to avoid trauma to protruding front teeth.
- to provide space for the adult teeth to erupt.
This can be achieved with removable appliances such as functional devices or Invisalign First. they are easy to wear and very often have good compliance by the children wearing them.
Phase 2 treatment
This takes place once the adult teeth are fully erupted.
Treatment options include
- fixed metal braces,
- fixed ceramic braces on the outside of the teeth
- Lingual braces on the inside surface of the teeth- Lingual braces which are not visible from the front
- Invisalign teen.
Children, teenagers and parents are given the choice of the most suitable options because the brace that is chosen needs to fit in with the age of the child and his or her lifestyle i.e. if they play rugby then an inside lingual brace would be the safest option
Teenagers who tend to be more self-conscious may prefer lingual braces or to have an aligner rather than the traditional metal or ceramic braces.
Some children and teenagers prefer to have the multi-coloured braces in which case the ceramic or metal braces would be best
At Smile Design Dental Practice Dr Decker will discuss all concerns and treatment options after a consultation so that you can choose the best device for you or your child.
Treatment options include
- Fixed braces metal/ceramic
- Lingual braces on the inside of the teeth so they can’t be seen
- Complex treatments that require surgery
