Dental implants are the only permanent way for a dentist to replace your missing teeth. At Smile Design Studio in Buckinghamshire we can use implants to restore your smile by replacing one, some, or even all of your natural teeth.
What are dental implants?
Essentially, dental implants are bionic tooth roots. Small screws made from titanium, they are placed directly in your jaw bone in a minor surgical procedure, carried out under local anaesthetic at our Buckinghamshire dental practice. Most people say that this procedure is more bearable than having a tooth extracted.
Implant positioning is precisely planned to avoid nerves and other vital structures, whilst still providing enough support for your new teeth to withstand the forces generated by biting and chewing. After your dental implants have been placed, your dentist will leave them to heal for a couple of months.
During this time, they mesh with the jaw bone and become a strong anchor on to which your new teeth will be attached – as strong, in fact, as natural tooth roots.
Your dentist will discuss your implant options when you come for an initial consultation at our Buckinghamshire practice. In most cases, for one tooth we will use a single implant with a crown, and for several or all of your teeth we will use a series of implants and either a bridge or dentures.
The good news is, if you need more than one tooth replaced, you often don’t need as many dental implants as teeth. Thanks to the precision planning and positioning carried out by your dentist, one implant can usually support several teeth.
Your new teeth will look just like natural teeth, and will act like them too. This means that not only will you be able to smile with renewed confidence, you will also be able to enjoy a full, healthy and balanced diet.
