A dentist can use dental implants to permanently replace anything from one to all of your natural teeth, as well as to stabilise loose dentures. At Smile Design Dental Practice in Buckinghamshire we have carried out many successful implant treatments, and welcome new patients for consultations as well as referrals from other dentists.
The benefits of dental implants
Dental implants have several notable differences when compared with standard dentures or dental bridges. These include:
Implants are the only way to replace the tooth roots, thus the only tooth replacement option that helps to maintain the health and integrity of the jaw bone.
Dental implants are the only permanent solution to tooth loss; they can last 20 years or more with good care, sometimes even for life.
With implants placed at our Buckinghamshire clinic you will enjoy incredibly natural function and appearance – in many ways like having new natural teeth.
Looking after dental implants for long-term success
At our Buckinghamshire clinic you will need a good level of bone density and a strong commitment to oral hygiene to enjoy successful implant treatment.
Your dentist will place the implants in your jaw under local anaesthetic and leave them for a few months to integrate, before attaching your permanent new teeth on top. At our Buckinghamshire clinic we will provide you with both short- and long-term aftercare instructions for your implants and new teeth, and these should be followed carefully.
For the first few days after dental implants are placed you may experience some swelling and discomfort, which over-the-counter painkillers can usually take care of. Ice packs can also help with the swelling.
Try not to probe the implant site with your tongue, and avoid hot (or excessively cold) food and drink in the early days.
Once your implants have been restored with teeth, you will need to brush and floss them in the same way as natural teeth, at least twice a day. You should also attend regular appointments with your Buckinghamshire dentist and hygienist, to make sure that your implants and teeth remain in the very best condition, free from plaque.Back to Blog
